IGNITING YOUNG MINDS


INTRODUCTION

IYM is an education initiative to enhance the growth and development of children belonging to the lower
economic strata of the society by tying-up with various orphanages in the capital city. 
This grassroots project includes training the children various life skills such as confidence building,
personal hygiene, etiquettes and moral values. The module also includes spoken English, math and
science related games and activities etc.

Leaders for Tomorrow kick started its project IYM in September. It is an education initiative to enhance
the growth and development of children belonging to the lower economic strata of the society.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this project are:
· To enhance the personality of various young children by training them on various aspects of life skills
such as confidence building, spoken English, personal hygiene etc.

· To combine practical sessions on life skills and activity-based games, so that the young children 
understand the concept.

· To provide an opportunity for young college students to be socially responsible and use their acquired
knowledge and skills for the betterment of their society.

PROJECT PLAN
Since IYM is a grassroots project, each Leaders for Tomorrow Zone in Delhi had tied-up with an 
orphanage. The plan for the project included:

·  Training on the method as well as the module for sessions

·   Providing with a student teacher’s log book on guidelines for IYM

·   Each member had to contribute two hours on a weekend for a continuous 8 weeks

·   Around two members were allotted for six children.

The topics that will be covered under IYM were moral values, confidence-building, math and science 
related games and activities, Spoken English, etiquettes, personal hygiene, activities for social 
awareness like cleanliness drive and adopt a plant, icebreaking sessions, how to eat and dress up, 
importance of natural resources like water etc.

IMPACT SO FAR
The South Zone Team has tied up with Aarohan in Malviya Nagar. As of now, 10 members are 
regularly been taking life skills classes for the children on Saturdays from 2-4 pm. 22 children 
are participating in this project.

The North Zone team has tied-up with Arya Orphanage in Pataudi House, Daryaganj and 10 IYM 
members. They took classes from 10 -12 pm. Around 36 children are participating in this project.
